Diet Patch Fraud Costs Company $110,539.50

Marketers of the “Peel Away the Pounds” diet patch were ordered to pay $1,000,000 to  unhappy customers for claiming the patch would cause substantial weight loss.  That didn’t stop Advanced Patch Technologies and its distributor, Buckhead Marketing & Distribution LLC from ignoring the courts and selling the patches to a third party overseas.  Tthe Federal Trade Commission on discovering the scheme ordered APT and its president, Salomon Btesh; and Buckhead, its former co-CEO, Ralf Leszinski, and Buckhead’s successor Worldwide Excellence, Inc. to pay an additional $110,539.50 in fines to the US Treasury.

It’s nice to see federal regulators sticking it peddlars of fraudulant diet and weight loss products, who prey on desperate people hoping for an easy fix for their weight problems. If this story teaches us anything, it is to be extra vigilant against fad diets and weight loss gimmicks, as there is no shortage of these predators who will do almost anything, including disobeying the courts, just to turn a buck at your expense.
